Green Light- Cazoshay

An eco-sista who feels good about being mindful

How long have you been eco-friendly? Honestly, pretty much all my life! Captain Planet was one of my first crushes and I've always had a heart for the environment. Coming from a part Cherokee and African-American background, I was always raised to have an appreciation for the Earth as our temporary home. So being eco-friendly is something that I've just always been raised to do.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? It can be summed up with Genesis 1:6 "God spoke: Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature so they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, and yes Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth." I feel that it is truly a mandate from God that we take care of the planet that we live on. It has never made sense to me that we do so much damage to the only place we are able to live. I want a healthy environment for my kids(s) and everyone else's kids too.

What do you like about it? I feel good about living a life where I'm doing as minimal damage to the planet and it's inhabitants as possible. I love knowing that my decision to live an eco-friendly life make a better future for our future generations. I also love that living an eco-friendly life physically makes me feel good by being mindful about the food and products that I consume.

Did you face any challenges? If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? I think one of the biggest challenges was and still is making it work as a working single mom. Sometimes it's difficult to make the eco-friendly choice because although it's always the better choice, it sometimes involves more time or money initially.

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? Start small. Make the decision to switch to some $.50 reusable bags and start there. Make your own products or buy from ethical and eco-friendly sources. Don't be too hard on yourself. Do the research and figure out how to make it work for you. Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube are actually great resources for finding simple tips on how to live an eco-friendly lifestyle.

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There's really no "right" way it's basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? Sort of. I feel like we are hypocrites regarding any issue at certain times. I think the main thing is to just do the best you can and to not be too hard on yourself or anyone else.

You know I gotta ask, How long have you been natural and how do you keep it so FLY? I've been natural for about ten years now. I believe variety is the spice of life so I like to switch it up a lot. I love rocking protective styles so I don't have to do my hair everyday and I always use natural products. I use the ones my mom makes with her natural eco-friendly home and body care business Needful Things Natural Home and Body Care.
