Green Light- Chelsea

An eco-sista who says being eco-friendly is rewarding

How long have you been eco-friendly? I started my eco-friendly journey during the spring of 2012.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? As part of my Master of Public Health curriculum, I was required to complete a Principles of Environment Health course. It was during this time that I became more conscious of the fact that my current behaviors presented a threat to the planet, as well as to the health of those around me. I was convicted spiritually. As a Christian, I have a God-ordained role to not destroy, but to work and keep the Earth. Additionally, we are called to seek the good of others (1 Corinthians 10:24).

What do you like about it? It is rewarding to know that my actions can improve the lives of others around me. I have found that an eco-friendly lifestyle is also healthier and more cost effective.

Did you face an challenges? If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? Like many aspects of life, preparation is key. An eco-friendly lifestyle is not convenient. At first, the biggest obstacle was finding safe, green cosmetics. Now, the biggest challenge has been swapping out my household cleaning products.

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? Just start somewhere. you will be surprised at how quickly you will adapt to this lifestyle if you simply start. Stop buying plastic water bottles and carry your own glass water bottles with you. Alternatively, you can start bringing your own re-usable bags to the grocery store intend of using the paper or plastic bags provided at the cash wrap.

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There's really no "right" way it's basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? No, I do not feel like a green hypocrite. We are all on different stages of our journey. I view going green from the perspective of "progress", not perfection".

You know I gotta ask, How long have you been natural and how do you keep it so FLY? Thank You! I big chopped in 2012. My 4 year "naturalversary" will be during the summer of 2016. Water, diet, and sunlight are my must haves for maintaining the health of my hair.

Is there anything you like to add? I love the mission and vision of "CluelessCurl". Thank you for the feature!
