Green Light- Tara

An eco-sista who loves a challenge

How long have you been eco-friendly? I remember being in elementary school and really taking the environment and recycling seriously. However, late high school is when I really started thinking about what I ate and the products I was using.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? I believe that since this is the only earth we have, we need to take its health seriously. Certain practices are not sustainable nor are they necessary, so I enjoy doing what I can to help.

What do you like about it? It is a challenge, but I love a challenge. Finding products, brands, and companies to support requires a lot of research, but I really enjoy doing it!

Did you face any challenges? If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? The biggest challenge I've faced recently is being a vegetarian in a meat consuming home. At college I can prepare my own meals but my parents feel guilty not knowing what to feed me at home. However, we have made compromises and my parents have discovered certain vegetarian dishes that they enjoy as well.

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? Just do it! Although it is far from being an overnight process, you feel so fulfilled knowing that your actions are benefiting the world we live in.

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There's really no "right" way it's basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? All the time. I'm not going to lie, I still use traditional deodorant and I'll shop at fast fashion retailers on occasion. I also love Lush, and not all of their products are 100% green. It is important to realize that baby steps are not worthless. If I can at least educate myself and know what is wrong and right, that is already a step in the right direction.

You know I gotta ask, How long have you been natural and how do you keep it so FLY? I have been natural for almost two years now! One may argue that I'm not going about it the right way by using heat, but I love messing with my hair too much! I think life is too short to take everything too seriously, and I especially don't always take my hair seriously. I do care for it, but I'm just going to keep doing me and experimenting.

Is there anything you like to add? Nope! Just stay green, y'all!
