An eco-sista who likes being closer to mother nature


How long have you been eco-friendly? I would moreso say that I am "trying" to be eco-friendly. There are so many different things we do unintentionally on a daily basis that may contradict eco-friendliness so I wouldn't really call myself that. But I've been trying for as long as I can remember.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? It just makes sense. Why overuse things? 

What do you like about it? I'm closer to mother nature.

Did you face any challenges?If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? Ignorance. People can be disturbed by things they don't know so sometimes I can't get what I need or do things my way. Because the majority is in ignorance there are challenges everyday. I live in Mexico and if I order a taco with only vegetables some people will give me the meat anyway like they can't even comprehend that I would miss an opportunity to eat meat. It's obviously less of the case in big cities but the confusion is still there. 

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? READ EVERYTHING! Not enough people actually read what they consume and that's crazy. Don't expect someone selling you something to have your best interests at heart, because sometimes they don't. 

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There's really no "right" way it's basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? All the time, but as you said "trying to do something that nothing at all" to me that's the thing, just do as much as you can.

You know I gotta ask, How long have you been natural and how do you keep it so FLY? I big chopped in 2012 and float between different styles depending on where I am. In hot and humid Mexico I keep it natural or braided and in the city I have fun with my flat iron. I try to follow a diet rich in hair boosting foods like the list here and use a sulphate-free natural shampoo and moisturize with coconut oil.

Is there anything you like to add? I try to keep a very open mindset about everything and do regular detox cleanses. In addition to other benefits, research reports that intermittent fasting helps to relieve the cell stress that contributes to aging. I've been doing them for 10 years now and I definitely see a difference. My detox book Forever 21 breaks down my experience.
