Green Light- Neosha

An eco-sista who wants to lead by example

How long have you been eco-friendly? I've been eco-friendly a little under a year now. I'm not 100% there just yet but my goal is to be as eco as possible where possible.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? I chose to start my eco-friendly journey because I wanted to lead by example and break a few bad habits that many of us subconsciously tend to stick to. I began eating more organic/vegan meals and paying more attention to what I put within my body. Documentaries sharing info regarding our planet and food industry really opened my eyes up to a lot. I plan to TRY starting my own garden and purchasing more vegan products such as makeup, haircare, etc.

What do you like about it? I like that I feel I'm doing my part in making our world a better place by consuming less and being aware to more harmful things to not just myself but my family as well. I'm a new mom so I'm especially excited about the things I'll be able to share with my son.

Did you face any challenges? If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? Of course! It's hard to recycle where I am. It's even harder trying to find great, quality food but I've been able to find my way. I've been recycling the glass bottles of organic dressings I'd buy and use them as water mugs. My local area has a farmer's market and street market held on select days so when I can, I make sure to take advantage. It's also been tough letting go of pork and beef… le sigh. So far so good though! I feel great!

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? Take your time and don't rush into it without knowledge. I took one step at a time and have been learning to improve every step of the way. The outcomes are rewarding for sure. It's also great to ask for help or learn from others who are veterans in the eco-friendly society.

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There's really no "right" way it's basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? Oh goodness yes! Everytime I open up something plastic and have to throw it away, I feel so guilty. Or if I change my son's diaper and have to toss it… I shiver. I have to remind myself that I'll get better overtime if I continue to do my best at finding great resources and things that will help improve my eco-friendly journey.

You know I gotta ask, How long have you been natural and how do you keep it so FLY? LOL!Girl I've been natural 4 years come March. I do a lot of protective styling mostly to keep it healthy and retain length. I'll be doing a second big chop this year though. On top of trying to be eco-friendly, I'm also switching my life into minimalism. With a new baby, comes less time for me to manage all this hair. So, tapered cut here I come!

Is there anything you like to add? Certainly! Thank you for allowing me to share my eco-experience with your readers. If interested, I can be found blogging about all things lifestyle, beauty, baby, and more at itsRatedNgee, dropping photo bombs over on Instagram, and tweeting up a storm on Twitter.
