Green Light- Stephanie

An eco-sista who says don't be discouraged by "rules"

How long have you been eco-friendly? I have been eco-friendly for the last year or so. I'm actually new to this way of living! I've been getting towards being eco-friendly for about a year now.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? After becoming a mom last year, I now see the world through my son's eyes and I want to leave him and my future grandchildren a world that is much cleaner, healthier, and more resourceful than the world we are in today. I also want him to be able to contribute to a more eco-friendly world and it be second nature to him.

What do you like about it? You learn so much! For example, I had no idea there was such a thing as reusable straws, chlorine/chemical free diapers, and cloth diapers until I became pregnant. Even vegan and gluten-free hair and skin products are available for use. It's mind boggling but down right amazing to me.

Did you face any challenges? If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? Getting my husband to get on board with me regarding cloth diapers for our son was a task. He wasn't a fan of them so I compromised and purchased some earth friendly diapers with the traditional feel and look instead. We may revisit the cloth diaper idea with baby #2 in the future.

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? Start small. Baby steps. Maybe start by purchasing toilet paper without the tube to save paper and trees. Another small way is to use a portable thermos to house your water on the go versus buying a water bottle. You'll also save $1.39 a day (depending on the bottle size). Also give yourself a break, especially if you have a family! Different people call for different personalities and different responses.

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There's really no "right" way it's basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? Yes! Do it in your own way and on your own time!

You know I gotta ask, How long have you been natural and how do you keep it so FLY? Thanks! I've bee natural for a little over 5 years. I transitioned rather than doing a big chop. My journey is detailed on my blog and instagram

Is there anything you like to add? Whether going natural, eco-friendly, or both... your journey is your journey! Do it at your own pace and on your own time. Don't be discouraged by "rules" or anyone else for that matter. Your journey is whatever you make it out to be so make it worthwhile!
