Green Light- Naki

An eco-sista who says do the best you can with where you are in your life

How long have you been eco-friendly? I awakened to my greater nature about 3 years ago.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? I was very depressed as a young child. These feelings followed my into my young adult life and into college. When I realized how unhappy I was I decided to make some changes to my life. I realized what I was doing to my body by the foods I was eating and the unnecessary stress I was putting on myself. I did some deep searching and found many answers of life that I was seeking.

I became vegan and extremely conscious of what I put on and in my body. I feel that in order to be at peace with ourselves, we need to move back into our natural states and live lifestyles that are conducive to that. This not only aids us in living a much happier life but that planet that we live on thanks us as well.

What do you like about it? I love everything. I love that I can appreciate purity. I love that I can appreciate nature and everything that she's provided for us. We take too much granted.

Did you face any challenges? If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? Sometimes you do develop deep attachments to your identity and way of life. Your friends, work, school, projects, and your entire lie are built around this identity. When I challenged who I was, my whole paradigm crumbled around me. It was tough receiving the eye rolls from family and friends. The moments of solitude when you feel like no one understands you and how you feel are challenging as well.

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? Go with what you feel in your heart is right and live it with no regrets.

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There's really no "right" way it's basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? Yes, it's not a realistic goal for myself to be 100% perfect along this journey. We just do the very best we can based on where we are in our lives.

You know I gotta ask, How long have you been natural and how do you keep it so FLY? If this is pertaining to hair, I've been natural for 5 years since my senior year in high school. I've done all the twist outs, braid outs, closed shaved, everything! LOL, and at this point in my life I've decided to let go of the maintenance and manipulation and allow it to lock up however it pleases.

Is there anything you like to add? Thank you for inviting me to be a part of this!
