Green Light- Briana

An eco-sista who says being eco-friendly can make a difference

How long have you been eco-friendly? I would say it's something I have practiced my entire life. But since I've gotten to college I try to be more aware of recycling properly, and using water and electricity to a lesser amount.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? For me, it was becoming more aware of the affects of not being eco-friendly, such as global warming, the extinction of certain animals and just the overall health of the planet. It's important to be more eco-friendly in a place where more natural resources are running out because of the increasing population. If we are able to make eco-friendly habits a part of our everyday life than it would definitely positively benefit the environment.

What do you like about it? It serves a bigger purpose in the overall scheme of things. By being eco-friendly we are attempting to keep our planet safe for the future. I love the idea of contributing to the betterment of our planet and the people who live in it.

Did you face any challenges? If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? I think just the challenge of breaking bad habits that wouldn't be considered eco-friendly. I think once I was in college, and had my own independence I was able to make better decisions for myself and the environment that I am a part of.

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? Definitely do your research on different ways to be eco-friendly. The simplest things you thought you could never do could actually may be a part of being eco-friendly.

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There's really no "right" way it's basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? No, not at all. Being eco-friendly can definitely make a difference whether it is individually or collectively. If you are able to pass a positive message to others about the benefits of being eco-friendly than something has already been accomplished.

You know I gotta ask, How long have you been natural and how do you keep it so FLY? Ha Ha thanks! I've been natural for about 2.5 years now. I just do my best to take care of my hair, and I stay away from heat. I actually purchase more eco-friendly or "natural" products now, and my hair has responded very well to it. The best thing I can say about keeping it "fly" is to have patience, because looking good ain't easy! Ha!

Is there anything you like to add? I can be found on YouTube and Instagram
