Green Light- Ruth

An eco-sista who loves living a simplified life

How long have you been eco-friendly? I have eco-friendly for just over 3 years.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? It gives me piece in my heart that what I am doing is what nature has provided. Less side effects and it has worked well for me since.

What do you like about it? It simplifies life for me because it lets me accept what nature has for me and also explore it's full potential and benefits. Most of the things that we need in life, nature has already provided in a balanced way that we only need to be part of the eco-system.

Did you face any challenges? If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? Getting used to the ways and methods of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a natural hair regimen. The work and hours that are needed to be invested before it becomes a lifestyle. Otherwise once the good habits are developed, it is life as normal and no problems.

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? It is the best thing one can do for themselves and the environment. There is no need to overwhelm yourself with a life overhaul. Replace on unhealthy habit with a healthier one at a comfortable time period and soon you will enjoy a healthier lifestyle. Knowledge is power. Acquaint yourself with information on what you put in your mouth, on your skin, in your hair, and the gadgets you are using. Know what suits you and your lifestyle and be comfortable in your skin as much as possible. It will not all happen in a day, maybe not in a month or a year but every step towards your goal and purpose will count.

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There's really no "right" way it's basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? Yes, I do but then I also remind myself not to be too hard on myself and belittle my efforts. It is a journey and a mindset as well. There are good choices and best choices to choose from on every action and if I make more best choices, then I am happy but sometimes circumstances may not allow and I still move on because I know I have done that I think is the best.

You know I gotta ask, How long have you been natural and how do you keep it so FLY? I have been natural for 17 months now although I transitioned for 24 months so that makes it a total of 3 years and 5 months. I did a lot of research before going natural and I still do some research to this day to really get the best of my kinks. I also try to keep my styles simple and low manipulation styles are my major although it is kind of hard to get my hands out of my hair sometimes. I like playing with my hair a lot. I also avoid using heat and use mainly 100% natural products on my hair which lead me to start a natural products line called Natural Moisture.

Is there anything you like to add?Going natural is a personal choice and it is one I thought I owed to myself to experience being me with no alterations in any form. Being eco-friendly is something that I also thought I owed to the health of my body and my soul. The peace to know that what I do is what nature has put in place for me and it is my duty not to damage but to use and let live.
