Green Light- Ginny

An eco-sista who says you are in control of your actions

How long have you been eco-friendly? I don't consider myself as eco-friendly as I should be, however there are some things which I do to help the world. I always make sure I turn the electricity off on all plugs whenever I leave a room or I am going out. Also, I do not straighten or blow dry my hair which decreases the amount of electricity I use. I always recycle and as I am a student I am constantly being given hand outs and random sheets so I always recycle them when I do not need them. In addition, I always clear out my wardrobes and give my clothes to charity which allows them to be re-used by someone else.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? During my time at primary school many organizations would always come in to teach us about caring for the environment and I was constantly reminding my Mum to not leave the electricity on or simple things like that as I know they count the most.

What do you like about it? I like that I know I am making a difference and it is something I am so used to now. I cannot use a new water bottle every day simply because I have this bad feeling inside me that I am wasting resources so I use re-fillable water bottle to reduce my carbon footprint.

Did you face any challenges? If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? I spend a lot of time in the shower when I am washing my hair so it can be hard for me to reduce the time spent as it is a long process but this is something I have to learn how to adapt to.

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? We are all living in this world and your small actions can help make a difference.

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There's really no "right" way it's basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? You are in control of your actions and we all have our different perceptions of what "going green" is. But if you do not over think and try to do the impossible it will work out.

You know I gotta ask, How long have you been natural and how do you keep it so FLY? I have been rocking this mane of mine since 2009. I wash once a week with a cleansing creme, deep condition once a month and I guess I've finally found products that my hair loves! Listening to what your hair wants and understanding it's needs are so important and the way you look at your hair is vital. Perspective is everything!
