Green Light- Sarie

An eco-sista who says you are what you eat and keeping it natural is the way to go

How long have you been eco-friendly? I have been eco-friendly for a few years. My family has always tried not to be wasteful. But it was not until I got to college that I began realizing that our environment is what we make of it. I started recycling and eating more fresh food. I haven't completely cut out all processed foods but I'm making the effort to one day.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? I didn't really choose to be eco-friendly. It was just incorporated into my lifestyle after I made the decision to become healthy. Eating right was a big portion of that. I decided to completely abandoned my college meal plan and start cooking my own meals.

What do you like about it? Food is a big part of me, so being able to cook my own meals has not only helped me grow as a eco-friendly person but also as an individual. Being natural helps too, making my own products and taking care of my hair is very important. I like knowing everything that I put in my body and hair so I can keep it healthy.

Did you face any challenges? If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? Well, when it comes to hair product that is where I found my biggest challenge. I had to stop using a lot of products because that involved chemicals that were not good for my hair. I try to keep things all natural. Another obstacle I faced was staying away from processed and artificial snacks.

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? My bottom line is remember "you are what you eat" and I don't want to be processed and artificial. Keeping it natural is the way to go!

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There's really no "right" way it's basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? I'm pretty sure everybody feels like that especially with guilt craving of food we know we shouldn't have. But, I always keep in mind that nobody knows my body like I do. What I eat is my choice. Although I try to make the "right" decision not everything is always clear cut.

You know I gotta ask, How long have you been natural and how do you keep it so FLY? I have been natural all my life! And I love it! I grew up natural, around 2006 I got loss and I kept them for about 7 years. I love them to death but I needed a change so I combed them out. It took 3 days but I did it and I loved it. Since then I've been enjoying my curls and coils. My go to style is a bantu knot out and twist outs. I use my own shea butter styling cream to get the best results.

Is there anything you like to add? You can find me on my Blog, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
