Green Light- Keshia

An eco-sista who likes being eco-friendly to prevent thrash from accumulating our beautiful Earth

How long have you been eco-friendly? I have been eco-friendly for about three years now.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? I chose to be eco-friendly after being in AmeriCorps at Habitat for Humanity International. I was a part of a group called the ReStore Support Group while I worked there. We were a group of employees at Habitat's headquarters that provided resources and training for re-sale home improvement stores across the nation. The stores accepted donations of gently used home items for re-sale and used the money raised to invest in making more homes. These stores prevented tons of waste from being sent to the landfill. This opened my eyes to the benefits of being eco-friendly.

What do you like about it? I like that being eco-friendly prevents unnecessary trash from accumulating on our beautiful Earth.

Did you face any challenges? If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? I cannot think of any major challenges that I face by being eco-friendly.

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? Use re-usable water bottles because those plastic bottles add up for your wallet and for the landfills. Think about whether a home item can be repaired/reused or not before throwing it out.

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There's really no "right" way it's basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? Sometimes. I know I could recycle more, but I do not always take the time to separate items and reserve them for recycling like I should.

You know I gotta ask, How long have you been natural and how do you keep it so FLY? I have been natural for five years and I keep it fly, with patience and moisture! LOL. Maintaining natural hair can be exhausting after five years, so I try to stick to a hair regiment every two weeks and keep it moisturized in between to prevent breakage.

Is there anything you like to add? Being eco-friendly is great and it's a good thing to expose it to audiences using this blog. Kudos to you!
