Green Light- Farah

An eco-sista who says going green starts with YOU, before you can impact the rest of the world

How long have you been eco-friendly? My mother is eco-friendly and always made us live that way even though she is no vegan or vegetarian, I use to think she was fussy or had too many unusual views if this earth.

My first proper awareness of the earth that accommodates me in it, was back in 2004, when I fell really ill. I had a very weak immune and alopecia localis (still unknown till now) and no one knew what was wrong with me including all the qualified medical professionals I had to see every day, need I say "what a waste of money that was to my mother"?

She knew that herbal healing, herbal eating, and a peaceful ways with mother earth was key to healing, so she stopped taking me for medical help. Little did I know that mentally her words started sinking in more? I read a magazine article about "detox for a clear mind, body, and soul" and that sounds like something my mother would say, difference is, she would not use the word "detox". I didn't know about Google at the time (if it even existed) so I just followed the diet on the article (no-animal-product type of detox) for about 2 weeks, and I turned it into a month, then a year. I felt so much better that my mom was just happy to see that it was just "eating healthy" so she didn't have an issue with it. In 2006 I went Vegetarian I started researching at my local library.

I have been vegan (inside and out) for about 2 and half years. And I am even considering a pescetarian journey but for now I am loving my meat-free life.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? I did this for myself, for my health, for my life, for me. I sound selfish, but it's true, it all starts with You, before you can impact the rest of the world.

What do you like about it? The benefits of eco-friendly is what keeps me going. I like that so much!

Did you face any challenges? If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? Yes, Plenty! No restaurants in my area that caters to vegans, that's why I am considering a pescetarian lifestyle but we shall see. Luckily, I love to get messy in the kitchen to explore new awesome foods, otherwise I always order the "French Fries" (totally unhealthy) when we eat out.

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? Take it baby step. Do it for you, so that you will be easier on yourself. Do it for a good reason so that you have a reason to continue. And be easy on yourself. Remember that your little effort does make a difference in something...

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There's really no "right" way it's basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? I have a vegan diet. I have my own hair and body product range and it's eco-friendly (bio-degradable). I don't use make-up, but when I do, I use bio degradable products. Of course, I am a green hypocrite! I cook animal products all the time for my family. It is very tough but I cannot beat myself over it. I just live my life, know that I at least make an effort.

You know I gotta ask, How long have you been natural and how do you keep it so FLY? I have stopped relaxing my hair for 25 months now, and damn, it feels good! Thanks you! I simply practice my low manipulation method. I just do wasn-n-gos and easy styling options!

Is there anything you like to add? To find out more about my hair you can check me out on Facebook, Instragram, Youtube, and Pinterest
