Mixing Henna with Bentonite Clay

I've been thinking about giving up on doing my henna treatments. The messiness of it is what prompted my decision to do so. I blogged about my experience with it awhile back you can check it out here Hair Treatments. But before I gave it the boot I came upon this thread. I never thought about mixing the two together. After reading that I went to do some more research. I found tons of info on using henna and bentonite separately but not mixed together. At that point I'm like why not just give it a try and hope for the best.

I went to the fridge and got out my already pre-mixed henna. Carefully opening the lid making sure nothing jumped out or there was any foul smell. Hey! It's been awhile since my last application. So, I got some clay and mixed it in there. Since I was experimenting I also added a small amount of apple cider vinegar.

Why not? Might as well, what's the worst that can happen? I'm not the kind of person that likes to get all scientific with hair. But you couldn't get me to take that white lab coat off. I was mixing castor oil, honey, gel, brush, comb. Anyways, it was the first time in a long time I was excited and skeptical about this application.

Finally application time. As I'm adding it to my hair I take a deep breath saying please don't let my hair fall off. Three years of being natural you're gonna do something you're not sure of. Shut up! conscious where were you when I was eating that artery clogger the other day.

Here's the results of my experimentation

Yeah… I need to work on that

My hair was still on my head

Hmm... maybe I don't have to get rid of henna after all

  1. How long did you leave mixture on?

  2. I didn't realize that both could be mixed and applied together. I've been thinking about trying out bentonite clay and henna separately, so maybe I'll try it together if I like them. Did you notice any difference in shedding?

    1. No, haven't noticed. Just make sure to deep condition afterwards. I Henntonite once a month and my hair has responded well to it. Good luck! Hope it works out if you try it.

  3. I know I'm super late but I was wondering if you still use this mixture & whether or not you have calcium bentonite clay or sodium bentonite clay?

    1. No problem! It's been awhile since I've done this because the Indian store where I get my henna from is no longer in business but I most definitely will go back once I find what I'm looking for.

I use the Aztec Secret brand which is 100% natural calcium.

Hope I answered your ? and thanks for stopping by.

    1. No worries! But FYI... I no longer do this not because I wasn't getting results just doing too much.

At the time yes I felt that I was getting the benefits of both and whatever else was in the mix. I've attached a link to the recipe that I made. http://www.cluelesscurl.com/2013/02/my-henntonite-mix.html

      Thanks for stopping by.
