Green Light- Jenna

An eco-sista who says we won't be green queens overnight but do what you can

How long have you been eco-friendly? I started transitioning into a more eco-friendly lifestyle about 5 years ago after developing bronchitis.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? I decided to take on a more environmental friendly lifestyle for several reasons. I was about 2 years into my natural hair journey & had become more selective by using more natural products on my hair & at that time I'd somehow developed bronchitis. I was put on 2 inhalers. I didn't want to be dependent on them. So I decided that it was equally as important to become selective about the things I put into my body & in my home.

What do you like about it? I love that by taking small steps to go green, I'm not only benefiting my health but also the earth.

Did you face any challenges? If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? Of course! Most of the things that we want to achieve will present a bit of a challenge. The biggest challenge for me is overcoming my laziness. Sometimes it's easier to slip back into more careless ways because being healthy, natural, & eco-friendly requires a little extra effort. So my biggest challenge is pushing beyond the laziness.

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? My advice would be to ask yourself "why do I want to be natural or eco-friendly".  Many days that reason "why" will be your fuel to continue when you don't feel like recycling, or making you own hair & hygiene products, or taking your reusable bag, or putting that snot tissue in your purse until you find a trash so that you won't litter..lol

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There's really no "right" way it's basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? Lol.. yes, I do! However I try not to be too hard on myself because I know that each day I'm taking small steps that improve my health and the state of the environment. We won't become the "go green queen" overnight, but don't let that stop you from doing what you can.

You know I gotta ask, How long have you been natural and how do you keep it FLY? OMG!!! Thank youuu!! ..lol I've been natural for 7 years. I try my best to get up each day with a heart full of love & gratitude. I exercise, eat well, and be kind because that is what make me happy & feel good. When you feel good, it will show and you'll look good! :-D

Is there anything you like to add? A lot of things we want in life will require discipline. From great hair, great health, finance, career & better habits all require discipline. Just keep in mind that "Discipline is just choosing between what you want most over what you want now"
Blessings & Hugs! :)
