My First 5k

In running, it doesn't matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, "I have finished." There is a lot of satisfaction in that. -Fred Lebow, founder New York City Marathon

I did it!!! I ran my first of many races to come. The Tropical 5k was held in Miami. I was eyeballing this event for months and wasn't sure if I was going to make it. This race was the kickoff to the mother of all races in Florida the ING Miami Marathon. It was a weekend filled with events no runner wants to miss. Although I did miss a few of them. I started out by going to the......

 held at the.....

I went so that I can register and pick up my packet for the race. And the expo was FREE. I get to the booth and saw that the marathon was sold out. Ok, that's fine I'm not at that level yet. Then I see half marathon....sold out!!! Did I come here for nothing???

At that point I'm like maybe I should have registered online like normal people do. LOL. I didn't see anything about the 5k being sold out. So, I stood in line to get some info. I asked if space was still available for the 5k and she said the word that I wanted to hear. YES!!! just fill this out, have your ID and payment ready when you're done. Whew!!! Now I can enjoy the fun...

Race day came and OohhEmmGee!!!! y'all the scenery was beautiful. The race started on Watson Island (McArthur Causeway) and ended on Nikki Beach. I ran at my own pace not trying to beat nobody. Just as long as I crossed that finish line. I did not stop not one time. Pat on the back for me. My time was 35:00.

Check out the bling. Spinning Palm Tree designed by celebrity artist Stephen Gamson. Yes, that palm tree spins. Bling Bling. I can't wait for my next race.  The experience had me saying....

  1. Yeah! Good for you. Keep it up.
