It's been six months since I started this blog to document my eco-friendly journey. I've learned alot but I'm nowhere near being a green giant. There's been some ups and downs as with all things in life. I had alot of DIY, trying foods that I've given the stank eye(brussel sprouts), and going to green events. This journey has been amazing and I will continue what I've started.

I know I can only control what I can. I'm not going to be militant by shoving info down people's throats. If  they ask I'll tell them. But, please don't look at me like I'm crazy.

Keeping it 100% is what journey's are all about. I can't talk about the good and not mention the bad. I noticed how some products claim to be good for the environment, all natural, promising results, and they are not. Then the ones that are eco-friendly really don't deliver much. Going green is sure not easy. Anyways, here's what I've learned so far and wanted to share.

RECYCLING- If it wasn't for the big blue dumpster outside of where I live. This journey would have ended before it started. I don't even know where the local recycling plant is but, I'm sure I would have to pack my bags and make a day trip out of it. I just love how there's no sorting involved.

ORGANIC- For me, I know I can't afford "EVERYTHING" organic. But, when it comes to what goes inside my body. I do tend to lean towards that most of the time. I balance it out based on my needs and I've been able to find some that are reasonably priced.

SKIN CARE- This is my absolute favorite part of this journey. Using simple inexpensive ingredients has me kicking myself in the butt as to why I didn't know about this before. I love how it last forever and I get a ton of usage. Like the saying goes less is more and that is sooooooo true. I wore myself out trying all types of natural recipes until I narrowed them down. (Left to right in photo below)

ACV Face Mask:  Daytime routine- Using ACV, green tea, honey, sugar, and tea tree oil. I also use it as a lip scrub. I just need to learn to stop licking my lips like LL Cool J.

ACV Toner: Day and night routine- Using ACV and green tea. This helps even out my skin tone and my once uber oily "soul food cook" skin is not so oily as it use to be.

Grapeseed Oil: Day and night routine- Moisture, Moisture, Moisture (using Jan Brady's voice)

OCM Mix: My night time routine- When I first heard about this I was like y'all crazy but after hearing rave reviews. I jumped on the bandwagon and never looked back. I got a tight grip on this one. I use castor oil, jojoba oil, and sesame seed oil in my mix with several drops of tea tree oil. I did some research and found out that sesame seed oil is the "QUEEN" of all oils. Check out this link. Now I know what that smell was when I was waiting in line for my egg roll and shrimp fried rice back in the day.

CLEANING PRODUCTS- Same with skin care, I made my own cleaning products. They work well when it comes to light cleaning duties. But, when it comes to heavy duty cleaning not so much. I'll elaborate more in a future post.

MEATLESS DISH- I've been contemplating being a vegetarian but it's a work in progress. I've been taking baby steps by eating one meatless dish a week. Once a week became twice a week and so on. My nose don't open wide when I see a burger. Below is my attempt at making a veggie pizza (don't laugh) using mushrooms, red onions, tomatoes, parmesan and mozzarella cheese. Topped with fresh basil.
